Transition metal chemistry notes in University of Waterloo in 2007

This course provides an introduction to the chemistry of the transition (d-block) elements. The first part of the course will provide an introduction to the chemistry and electronic structure of simple coordination compounds; the effects of ligand fields on magnetism, electronic spectra, substitution and redox behaviour will be examined. Chains, rings, cages, and metal clusters will be presented, including solid-state examples. In the second part the organometallic and bioinorganic chemistry of the transition elements will be introduced.
