Subject: 07.12.11 PhD position in Catalyst Design University of Bergen - Norway
A 3-year position as Research Fellow in Catalyst Design is available at
the Department of Chemistry, University of Bergen
(http://uib.no/info/english/), Norway.
The position is linked to a project on development of new catalysts for
polymerization of functionalized olefins, funded by the Research Council
of Norway. Lead catalyst structures will be generated using a locally
developed Quantitative StructureActivity Relationships (QSAR) approach
based on molecular descriptors generated from density functional theory
(DFT) or hybrid DFT/MM calculations.
The most promising compounds will be subjected
to synthesis and testing of catalytic activity. The overall project thus
relies on competences in organic and organometallic synthesis, structural
analysis, and olefin polymerization, all of which is ensured by means of
collaboration between the groups of
Assoc. Professor Vidar R. Jensen (http://www.kj.uib.no/personer/nkjvj),
Professor Reiner Anwander (http://www.kj.uib.no/anwander), Professor
Hans-Rene Bjorsvik (http://www.kj.uib.no/bjorsvik) and Professor
Karl W. Tornroos.
The research fellow will be responsible for the theoretical part (the
in silico design of new catalysts) of the project and candidates with a
strong background in computational chemistry (molecular modeling, in
particular ab initio/first-principles calculations) are preferred.
Knowledge of inorganic/organometallic chemistry and/or multivariate
modeling is an advantage. Applicants must have achieved a masters
degree or equivalent in chemistry, physics, or a related field, or have
submitted their master thesis for assessment by the application deadline.
Starting salaries at salary level 43 (code 1017) on the government salary
scale; currently NOK 325,800 (ca. EUR 40,000) gross p.a.; following
ordinary meriting regulations (wage levels 43/47).
