This course is designed for undergraduate students to do fundamental organic reactions, develop experimental skills and instrumental techniques, analyze and discuss data, acquire scientific writing capability, cultivate independent thinking and so forth. My role in the class is to assist students in the performance of experiments designed to teach lab techniques and reactions. This allows me to interact with each student in a hands-on manner, while giving guidance and evaluating each student’s performance altogether.[/font][/color][/size]
[size=10pt][font=Times New Roman][color=#000000] [/color][/font][/size]
[size=10pt][color=#000000][font=Times New Roman]In my experience, AA is one of a few best among 29 students in my two sections. AA is always prepared and has performed each experiment carefully and completely, using techniques such as distillation, reflux and re-crystallization, to name a few. AA is a quick learner and has developed adept skills in the use of TLC and IR spectroscopy, and has also understood nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Students are also highly required to write formal lab reports similar to a journal style, i.e., Journal of Organic Chemistry. By doing this they are able to learn how to write in a scientific manner and improve their ability to communicate science in writing. Thus far, I am deeply impressed by Mr. BB’s writing capability that is very thorough and clear, a skill of cogitative analysis and discussion that not many students have at his level. He has accomplished everything that was required of him in a very organized and thoughtful manner. [/font][/color][/size]

[size=10pt][color=#000000][font=Times New Roman]AA has been receptive to my comments and critiques, while showing a strong motivation to learn chemistry. He has asked questions during each experiment, tried to improve his understanding and had his own scientific thinking, a clue that is highly desirable. AA has shown that he is independent and would like to help his lab peers when I am surrounded by other students. AA has always followed lab rules and regulations and been helpful to maintain a safe environment. In my experiences communicating with him, AA has been polite, enthusiastic and responsive, making him a joy to teach. AA is a hard-working and industrious student with a desire to further challenge his own potentialities. [/font][/color][/size]
