Yeung to retire from Analytical Chemistry

John Yates
Yeung cuts the cake at the editorial advisory board meeting while Reinhard Niessner looks on.Edward S. Yeung, associate editor for spectroscopy for Analytical Chemistry, is retiring from his editorial duties as of July 31, 2008, after 20 years with the journal. He was responsible for the peer review of many papers in the technical section, and he aided the staff in the Washington, D.C., office by providing comments on news and features (formerly the A-pages) submissions in his areas of interest. In addition to all things spectroscopic, Yeung’s expertise includes bioanalysis and life sciences, instrumentation, CE, LC, single-cell and single-molecule analysis, DNA sequencing, and monitoring trace gases.

Yeung will also be retiring from Iowa State University (but not Ames Laboratory) at the end of the summer semester. He plans to move to California with his wife and spend time with his children and grandchildren. A retrospective on his career and accomplishments will be published later this year in Analytical Chemistry.

Ligler and Pemberton named associate editors
Frances S. Ligler has been appointed as an associate editor of Analytical Chemistry effective June 1. She will be responsible for handling the peer review of bioanalytical papers. Ligler has a D.Phil. and a D.Sc. from Oxford University (U.K.). She is currently the U.S. Navy’s senior scientist for biosensors and biomaterials and is vice chair of the bioengineering section of the National Academy of Engineering. She has published >300 full-length articles in scientific journals and has 24 issued patents; together they have been cited >4600 times. Ligler performs research in biosensors, microfluidics, and nanotechnology. In 2003, she was awarded the Homeland Security Award by the Christopher Columbus Foundation and the Presidential Rank of Distinguished Senior Professional by President Bush.

Jeanne E. Pemberton has been appointed as an associate editor of Analytical Chemistry effective May 1. Pemberton is a Regents’ Professor, the John and Helen Schaefer Professor of Chemistry, and a faculty member of the BIO5 Institute at the University of Arizona. She will be responsible for handling the peer review of spectroscopy papers. Her research interests lie in the area broadly defined as interfacial chemistry, where she works on the development and use of a variety of molecular spectroscopic probes with the goal of understanding the chemistry within interfaces that are important in electrochemical, separations, self-assembling, and environmental systems. She received her undergraduate education at the University of Delaware, where she received a B.S. degree with distinction in chemistry and a B.A. degree in biology. She completed her Ph.D. with an emphasis in analytical chemistry at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. In addition to her scientific interests, Pemberton has been involved at the national level in a variety of professional activities related to chemical and science education and women in chemistry.

Yeung同志退休了阿~~~还是很牛的阿,听过不少次数他的报告,这样AC的副主编就没有中国人了。不过Yeung还是我们学校的兼职教授,以后应该还能看见他
