Two PhD student positions are available for September 2008 in the
theoretical and computational physics/chemistry group headed by Prof.
Shengbai Zhang in the Department of Physics, Applied Physics, and
Astronomy, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), USA.

Current research activities include the developments of stochastically
accelerated molecular dynamics and accurate and efficient van der Waals
interaction, and the broad applications of modern first-principles methods
to nanostructures, semiconductor defect and doping physics, and hydrogen
storage.

We offer:

(1) Excellent training in computational physics/chemistry to cover a broad
range of solid-state materials from crystalline and amorphous
semiconductors, metals, nanostructures to carbon nanotubes.

(2) Interesting research topics helping solving urgent national needs in
sustainable energy, environment, technology, and security.

(3) Powerful computational facilities. The facilities at RPI are currently
among top 12th throughout the world.

(4) Friendly working environment. The group currently has one Research
Associate Professor and three postdocs.

Required qualifications:

(1) Self-motivated individual holding a Bachelor's degree in physics or a
