REQUIREMNETS:
PhD degree in either Organic/Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or
Material Science. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education
which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation
or equivalent.
Demonstrated technical capabilities and problem-solving skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and
verbal.
Prior experience working within a diverse team environment.
Ability to relocate to Germany up to a period of 2 years on a project
assignment after the first 6-9 months of employment.
DESIRED:
Prior working knowledge of the German language and culture.
Prior experience in Urethane applications.
DESCRIPTION:
The selected candidate will receive initial training related to
the technologies and products of polyurethanes at the BASF Wyandotte R&D
department for 6-9 months. Afterwards the expectation is the candidate
will be sent on an overseas project assignment in Germany for up to 2
years.
During the project assignment in Germany and after returning back
to BASF Corporation, the Sr. Research Scientist I will work in the R&D
organizations and be involved in the following key activities:
Designing/developing new high-performance polyurethane products for
a variety of applications, ranging from energy-saving
materials, environmentally friendly protective coatings and adhesives,
to high-performance elastomers
Staying current with scientific and technical advances and explore
new building blocks (isocyanates, polyols, catalysts and other
functional additives) and unconventional applications;
Establishing structure-property relationships in polyurethanes and
providing technical support to basic raw materials development;
Establishing and maintaining close working relationships with colleagues
across the regions.
