Dear Colleagues,
I am in the process of identifying the appropriate coworkers to
initiate a major project in CHARMM. Please see the add below.
Regards,
Charles Brooks
A scientific programmer and postdoc in scientific computation are sought to
work on the porting of legacy FORTRAN code related to the CHARMM molecular
mechanics and simulation package to a more modern and maintainable FORTRAN
dialect. CHARMM is the most established and most widely cited molecular
simulation package for simulation studies of biological systems, e.g.,
proteins, nucleic acids, membranes, etc, and is used in thousands of
laboratories worldwide. It consists of multiple functional modules with new
scientific functionality developed by a large network of established
scientists throughout the world. The successful candidate for this position
will work closely with CHARMM development groups led by the University of
Michigan (Brooks) and including Harvard University (in the lab of Martin
Karplus) and the National Renewal Energy Laboratory (Michael Crowley).
Additionally, strong interactions with other CHARMM developers is
anticipated.
Through an ongoing project funded by the NIH and DOE, we plan to move this
code from legacy FORTRAN 77 to more modern standards with specific focus on
improved performance and scalability. A key objective will be the
development and implementation of molecular dynamics modules that
incorporate novel methods for distributed parallel simulations. Strong
experience in programming in FORTRAN 95/2003 constructs, parallel algorithms
, and parallel tuning are essential. Experience with Intel FORTRAN compilers
and parallel debuggers are a plus. Previous experience with CHARMM or
related packages is a positive, but not required. Good team working skills
and organization are essential to the successful candidate.
