The Chair of Chemical Biology at the Dortmund University of Technology invites applications for a Postdoctoral position in Systems Biology. The position is available immediately (initially limited to 2 years with the possibility to extend the contract). Salaries are according to E13 TV-L.
Environment:
The position is available in a Junior Research Group associated with the TU Dortmund and the Department for Systemic Cell Biology at the Max-Planck-Institute for molecular Physiology. The project is funded by the project “Subsystem Interactions in Neuromorphogenesis”, which is financed by the FORSYS initiative for supporting systems biology in Germany.
Project:
Our group is studying the mechanisms, by which neurons develop their complex shape. We are particularly interested in the role of the cytoskeleton and how it interacts with other cellular components. Through iterative cycles of experimentation and mathematical modeling, we aim to gain a better understanding about this complex, dynamic biological system.
You will be responsible for spearheading the development of dynamic mathematical models of the neuronal cytoskeleton that will complement the cutting-edge microscopy-based techniques employed by the lab. To develop and extend such models, you will work closely with highly motivated experimentalists and theorists at the TU Dortmund and the associated Max-Planck-Institute.
Requirements:
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with excellent scientific and interpersonal skills. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. level degree in mathematics, physics or computer sciences, should have basic experience in modeling of molecular systems and a strong interest in studying the neuronal cytoskeleton via mathematical models and physical simulations.
