Subject: 08.09.23 Postdoctoral Research Associate Opening in Molecular Modeling at the University of Pittsburgh
A postdoctoral position is available immediately at the University of
Pittsburgh, Department of Chemical Engineering, under the direction of
Prof. Karl Johnson (
http://puccini.che.pitt.edu/). This position is
funded by a grant from DARPA (
http://www.darpa.mil/) and is in
collaboration with experimental groups at Teledyne
(
http://www.teledyne.com/) and at Virginia Tech with Prof. Eva
Marand. The research program involves modeling transport and
selectivity of aqueous mixtures through carbon nanotube/polymer mixed
matrix membranes. The successful candidate will be highly motivated,
be able to work independently, have extensive experience in modeling
complex molecules in aqueous environments, have a working knowledge of
transport phenomena, including transport of ions in aqueous solutions,
and expertise in molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo methods.
Extensive experience with performing large-scale molecular dynamics
simulations and proven ability to write computer code (FORTRAN and C)
are required. A working knowledge of quantum mechanics and
familiarity with packages such as Gaussian 03 is a plus. The candidate
should have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, physics, chemistry,
materials science, or a related field. Qualified candidates should
send a resume and a brief description of research accomplishments in PDF
format to karlj a pitt.edu along with names and email addresses of three
references. The position is initially for one year with the
possibility of renewal based on performance and funding
availability. A very competitive salary and benefits package is
offered through the University of Pittsburgh.
